Job Description
TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION\*\
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-12. At the GS-11 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence.
You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-12. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
The CSP is a national clinical trials program established in 1972 to provide collaboration on research design, statistical analysis, data management, regulatory, technical education, and administrative coordination for clinical trials involving various scientific areas of research conducted to improve the health and care of the Veteran and the nation.
The Statistical
Programmer functions as a Data Management Programmer with duties that may also include but not limited to SAS or SQL coding and script writing.
The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provides comprehensive statistical SAS/SQL/Other programming and data management support to clinical study project teams
• Performs statistical computing, data management, and supports the biostatistician with computer/SAS programming while developing and/or applying specified statistical methodologies in the development and evaluation of data processing programs
• Serves as the primary (main) resource for the CSP Study Team(s) in the planning, development and implementation of automated/digital data collection and management systems such as DataFax, DataLabs or others for new clinical trials assigned to the WH-CSPCC
• Designs, develops, implements and maintains statistical programs and data management procedures in a production environment, including source code management and change control, with the most appropriate methods and most efficient applications utilizing a variety of state-of-the-art software applications available to support the work of the WH-CSPCC clinical trials
• Analyzes VA study participant (patient) databases and data from other sources such as laboratories, and electronic medical records; collects and compiles data from those systems for a variety of research topics; and develops cross sectional and longitudinal datasets (primarily in SAS format) from compiled and correlated data for analysis
• Evaluates, develops, implements, and provides guidance in the application of standards, methods, and procedures for input and analysis
• Ensures that testing methods and procedures are updated to adopt improvements in software testing technology
• Organizes and maintains system documentation, and production and QC on case report form and computer program (data processing system) validation (administrative and technical) to include technical manuals, programming guides, and operating instructions
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• *Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
