That concentration positions the Central Valley as a significant behavioral health workforce hub, although NPI registrations measure provider records rather than service capacity or patient access.

ABA Credential Mix

The registry identifies 12 BCBA providers and 111 RBT providers, alongside 1 dual-credentialed provider holding both BCBA and RBT credentials. These categories overlap, so the dual-credentialed provider is included in both relevant counts. The resulting BCBA-to-RBT mix is weighted heavily toward direct-care technicians, with roughly one BCBA for every nine RBTs. That pattern signals a substantial frontline workforce but a comparatively limited pool of supervisors responsible for clinical oversight. 41 providers reported multiple taxonomies, further indicating that credential categories are not mutually exclusive.

Workforce Demographics

Women account for 175 practitioners, or 78% of the workforce; 38 practitioners are male, or 17%, while 10 practitioners identify as nonbinary, or 4%. Sierra Vista Child & Family Services appeared twice in the registry. Fresno led the listed cities with 41 providers, followed by Modesto with 38, Sacramento with 37, Riverbank with 21 and Bakersfield with 16.

The update points to rapid workforce expansion, but the small BCBA pool relative to RBT registrations may constrain supervision and, in turn, the region’s ability to translate new direct-care capacity into broader ABA access.
