South Florida's behavioral health sector recorded a total of 304 providers in the latest CMS NPI registry update, contributing 3% to the national weekly total. This concentration highlights the region's significant role as a hub for behavioral health services, with 137 new registrations this week alone. The workforce comprises 245 individual practitioners and 59 organizations, indicating a mix of independent professionals and established clinics.

ABA Credential Mix and Capacity

Within the individual practitioner pool, the data shows 69 BCBAs and 140 RBTs. These credential counts are not mutually exclusive, as 17 providers hold both BCBA and RBT credentials, reflecting a common career path from direct service to supervisory roles within ABA. The ratio of approximately one BCBA for every two RBTs suggests a developing but generally adequate supervisory capacity, crucial for maintaining the quality and oversight of ABA therapy. Beyond ABA, the area also registered other behavioral health professionals, including 11 LCSWs, 4 LMHCs, and 3 RMHCIs.

Workforce Demographics and Local Presence

The individual provider workforce in South Florida is predominantly female, with 206 female providers accounting for 84% of the total, while 35 male providers make up 14%, and 4 nonbinary providers represent 2%. Miami leads the top cities with 82 providers, followed by Hialeah (26), Deerfield Beach (17), Homestead (17), and Stuart (16). The FLORIDA EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCE appeared twice in the registry, indicating its notable presence in the region.

This consistent growth in both direct-service RBTs and supervisory BCBAs, coupled with a diverse mix of other behavioral health professionals, suggests a robust and expanding behavioral health workforce in South Florida, poised to enhance access to care for local families.
