Idaho residents who may qualify for a clinical trial should check closing studies now: 14 recruiting trials are expected to close within the next 90 days. Two of those studies accept healthy volunteers, creating a limited opportunity for people without a diagnosed condition. Idaho currently has 328 recruiting trials across 20 cities and 185 research sites.

Only 1 new trial opened in July, a sharp decline from 10 in May and the 10 that opened in June. The new study is in Boise and focuses on long-term outcomes after hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The slower opening pace makes the closing-soon studies especially important for people who are ready to begin screening.

Closing windows affect a wide range of conditions

The trials approaching closure cover several unrelated health needs, from respiratory and skin conditions to diabetes, human papillomavirus infection, and back pain. Enrollment projections can change, and a study may stop screening before its listed closing date, so prospective participants should contact the research site promptly to ask whether applications are still being accepted.

Two of the 14 closing studies accept healthy volunteers. Idaho has 29 healthy-volunteer trials recruiting statewide in total, but none of July’s new trials accept healthy participants. Healthy adults who are interested in research should therefore review the existing statewide listings rather than wait for a new opening.

Boise receives July’s only new study

July’s sole new trial is NCT07732374, “Long-Term Outcomes Following HBOT.” The Phase 2 study, sponsored by Summit Hyperbarics and Wellness, plans to enroll 35 participants. It is designed to examine whether improvements after hyperbaric oxygen therapy remain over time and whether additional benefits emerge months after treatment ends.

The study will evaluate changes in cognitive function, making it particularly relevant to people exploring research related to post-concussive symptoms or traumatic brain injury. The description also references post-traumatic stress disorder among the new-trial condition categories. Because this is a small, focused Phase 2 study, people who believe they may qualify should ask about screening requirements, prior treatment, timing of symptoms, and follow-up visits.

However, the month’s activity shows how opportunities can cluster in the state’s largest metropolitan and medical hub, where specialized facilities and investigators are more likely to be available.

People living outside Boise should search the full statewide inventory by condition and travel distance. Some studies may offer more than one Idaho site, while others may require visits to a particular research center. Before traveling, ask the study team whether the site is actively screening, how many visits are required, whether remote appointments are available, and whether transportation or other participant support is offered.

Who should act now?

Patients with asthma, atopic dermatitis, diabetes, HPV-related conditions, or discogenic low back pain have the clearest reason to review closing listings immediately. Families should also check the diabetes studies that include children or adolescents. Adults interested in healthy-volunteer research have two closing opportunities, but none of the new July trials are open to healthy participants.

Eligibility information for the new July study is limited by demographic category: 1 new trial includes older adults, while 0 include children, 0 are female-only, and 0 are male-only. Older adults considering post-concussion, traumatic brain injury, or related cognitive research may want to ask the Boise site whether the study’s age range and medical requirements fit their situation.

As July closes, Idaho’s trial landscape is defined less by a large wave of new openings than by the need to respond quickly to studies nearing enrollment deadlines. The coming months may bring additional opportunities—the recent monthly count rose to 4 in August after July’s single opening—but people who match a current study should begin the screening conversation now rather than rely on future listings.
