Arkansas Clinical Trials Report — July 2026

Arkansas residents considering a clinical trial should check eligibility soon: 35 recruiting studies are expected to close within the next 90 days. Four of those trials accept healthy volunteers, creating a limited window for people without a diagnosed condition. Statewide, 684 trials are recruiting across 34 cities and 323 research sites.

July brought 8 new trials, fewer than the 12 that opened in May. The new studies are concentrated in schizophrenia, ADHD, muscular dystrophy, obesity, menopause, women’s health, and high-risk muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma. Seven are drug trials, and seven are industry-sponsored, including studies from AstraZeneca, Axsome Therapeutics, Karuna Therapeutics, a Bristol Myers Squibb company, ML Bio Solutions, and TG Therapeutics.

Closing enrollment makes several conditions urgent

The closing-soon list spans mental health, dermatology, cancer, heart rhythm disorders, and epilepsy. People with atopic dermatitis, prostate cancer, or schizophrenia have the largest number of condition-specific opportunities, with 2 trials in each category nearing closure. Other conditions represented include atrial fibrillation, bipolar I disorder, bladder cancer, bipolar disorder I or II with a major depressive episode, Dravet syndrome, absence epilepsy, and generalized epilepsy.

Healthy volunteers should also act promptly. Four of the 35 studies closing within 90 days accept healthy participants, while 47 healthy-volunteer trials are recruiting across Arkansas overall. Prospective participants should allow time for prescreening, medical-record review, and any required testing; a study listed as recruiting may stop accepting applications before its projected closing date.

New Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies bring major sponsors to Arkansas

Several July openings stand out because of their development stage, sponsor, or potential participant group. AstraZeneca opened a Phase 3 study for adults with high-risk muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma after radical surgery. The trial, NCT07720284, will compare Dato-DXd plus rilvegostomig with standard-of-care adjuvant treatment in people with residual high-risk disease after radical resection. It plans to enroll 915 participants internationally and has a projected duration of about 78 months, with treatment lasting up to approximately 12 months depending on the participant’s course.

The schizophrenia pipeline is especially prominent this month, with three new studies overall. The KarXT trial focuses on preventing relapse, while the TG Therapeutics study evaluates whether ublituximab improves schizophrenia symptoms. These studies may appeal to different groups depending on treatment history, current stability, and other eligibility requirements.

Families with children or teenagers diagnosed with ADHD have two distinct Phase 3 opportunities from Axsome Therapeutics. Both studies are randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials lasting six weeks, but they serve different age groups. Parents and guardians should review requirements carefully because age cutoffs and other screening criteria may determine which study is appropriate.

Little Rock dominates new activity, with additional openings in northwest and central Arkansas

New-trial activity is heavily concentrated in Little Rock, which accounted for all 8 new trials listed in the primary city count. Bentonville, Hot Springs, and Rogers each appear as additional Arkansas locations connected with new research activity, with 1 new trial each in the city breakdown.

Who may find an opening this month?

Four of the new trials include older adults, and three include children. One study is female-only, while none is identified as male-only. The female-focused opening is particularly relevant for people exploring menopause or women’s health research. New condition categories include obesity and overweight, menopause, and a women’s study, alongside the more specialized muscular dystrophy and urothelial carcinoma trials.

Healthy volunteers have fewer new options than patients this month: only 1 of the 8 new trials accepts healthy participants. That makes the four closing-soon healthy-volunteer studies especially time-sensitive. Industry sponsors account for 7 of the new trials, with one classified as other and sponsored by the University of Arkansas. Axsome Therapeutics opened 2 studies, while Karuna Therapeutics, AstraZeneca, ML Bio Solutions, TG Therapeutics, the University of Arkansas, and Leal Therapeutics each sponsored one.
