Oregon Clinical Trials Report — July 2026

People in Oregon who may qualify for a clinical trial should check closing studies now: 48 recruiting trials are expected to close within the next 90 days, including 10 that accept healthy volunteers. Enrollment dates can change, but screening may take time, so waiting until a posted deadline is near can reduce the opportunity to participate.

Oregon currently has 1,157 recruiting trials across 35 cities and 523 research sites. July brought 11 new trials, down from 17 in May. The month’s new research is concentrated in Portland, while the closing-soon group is led by cancer studies involving ovarian, prostate, and endometrial cancers.

Closing-soon studies create the most immediate opening

Patients with several types of cancer may find the most time-sensitive opportunities. Ovarian cancer, atopic dermatitis, prostate cancer, and endometrial cancer each account for 3 trials projected to close within 90 days. Other affected groups include metastatic solid tumors, fallopian tube cancer, and advanced solid tumors.

Healthy adults also have a limited window. Ten of the 48 trials nearing closure accept healthy volunteers, while 101 healthy-volunteer studies are recruiting across Oregon overall. Only 1 of July’s 11 new trials accepts healthy volunteers, making the closing-soon studies especially relevant to people without a diagnosed condition.

Anyone interested should confirm that a study is still recruiting, review its inclusion criteria, and contact the research site promptly. A trial may require medical records, laboratory testing, imaging, or other screening before enrollment.

July’s new studies span cancer, chronic disease, and community programs

Oregon’s July openings include 5 drug trials, 3 behavioral studies, and 3 classified as other types of research. Conditions represented include atopic dermatitis and eczema, cystic fibrosis, gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, muscle-invasive bladder urothelial carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, overweight or obesity, and parent school-readiness confidence and skills.

Several large Phase 3 studies from industry sponsors stand out. Akeso is sponsoring NCT07700979, a randomized Phase 3 study for people with previously untreated, unresectable or metastatic HER2-negative gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. The study plans to enroll 900 participants and compares cadonilimab plus chemotherapy with chemotherapy-based approaches that may include nivolumab.

Bristol-Myers Squibb’s NCT07680790 is a Phase 3 study for previously untreated, locally advanced or metastatic EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer. It plans to enroll 850 participants and evaluates izalontamab brengitecan combined with osimertinib against osimertinib alone or osimertinib with platinum-based chemotherapy.

Other new studies offer options beyond experimental cancer medicines. AstraZeneca is sponsoring NCT07690436, a 500-participant pilot study using retinal fundus and optical coherence tomography imaging to investigate ocular detection of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy. The study includes adults with confirmed ATTR-CM and heart-failure controls whose records indicate a low probability of the condition.

Oregon Health and Science University is sponsoring NCT07677618, a 480-participant “READY” program for low-income parents. Community health workers will help investigators compare a School Readiness Checklist with Kinder Coaching, two primary-care interventions designed with input from parents, clinical stakeholders, and educators. The VA Office of Research and Development is also sponsoring NCT07725536, a Phase 2 study of health coaching and veteran reintegration involving 398 participants.

Portland dominates new recruitment

New trial activity is strongly concentrated in the Portland area. Portland opened 9 of Oregon’s 11 new studies this month. Hillsboro and Springfield each added 1.

The statewide network remains broader than the July openings alone: recruiting trials are available across 35 cities and 523 sites. People outside the Portland metro area may need to search by travel radius, since the newest study in a condition of interest may be located at only one Oregon site.

Who may find a fit this month?

Families should review the eligibility details carefully because 3 of the new trials include children. No July openings are limited exclusively to women, and none are limited exclusively to men. Older adults are included in 10 new-trial eligibility criteria, creating opportunities for people seeking research related to cancer, heart disease, chronic illness, or other age-associated health questions.

The sponsor mix includes AbbVie, Akeso, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inmagene LLC, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Nicole Hamblett, and the VA Office of Research and Development. The pace of new openings has declined over the past several months, from 25 in February to 19 in March, 20 in April, 19 in May, 17 in June, and 11 in July.
