Dallas residents should act quickly if they match a study closing soon: 71 recruiting trials are expected to close within the next 90 days, including 14 that accept healthy volunteers. There are 14 closing-soon studies that accept healthy volunteers, while 120 healthy-volunteer trials are recruiting across Dallas overall. Major Phase 3 studies open in Dallas

UT Southwestern is Dallas’s largest research hub

The University of Texas Southwestern system accounts for the city’s deepest concentration of research activity. Several database listings use slightly different names for affiliated departments and locations, so people should check the exact site listed for each study before contacting a center.

UT Southwestern and its Simmons Cancer Center locations are particularly important starting points for oncology, while Baylor University Medical Center, Parkland, and Medical City Dallas provide additional hospital-based options. Retina Foundation of the Southwest offers a specialized setting for eye research. The largest sites also run studies in areas such as metabolic health, neurology, cardiovascular disease, and rare conditions.

Who can participate in July’s new studies?

Of the 27 new trials, 3 accept healthy volunteers. Six include children, one is female-only, and none is male-only. Twenty-one include older adults. The new-trial sponsor list is led by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, which sponsors 9 openings. Other sponsors include Amgen, AstraZeneca, Baylor Research Institute, Biogen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly and Company, and Evopoint Biosciences.

Academic and nonprofit activity remains prominent: 15 new trials are categorized as other, compared with 12 industry-sponsored studies. The study types include drug, device, behavioral, biological, radiation, and other research. People should confirm whether a trial provides treatment, evaluates a device or procedure, or involves observation and testing only.

Other Texas cities to consider

Dallas has more recruiting trials than the other listed Texas cities, but travel may expand the number of possible matches. Houston has 51 trials, followed by San Antonio with 17 and Austin with 12. Fort Worth has 7, Richardson has 5, and Edinburg has 3. Fort Sam Houston and El Paso each have 2.

New openings have declined from 40 in February and 42 in March to 27 in July, after reaching 39 in May and 31 in June.
