New York Clinical Trials Report — July 2026

New Yorkers considering a clinical trial should act promptly if they find a match: 260 recruiting studies are expected to close within the next 90 days. Among these, 66 accept healthy volunteers. Cancer studies make up the largest share of the closing-soon opportunities, led by breast cancer, prostate cancer, and ovarian cancer.

At the same time, New York remains one of the country’s largest research markets, with 4,468 trials recruiting across 194 cities and 2,955 research sites. Researchers opened 87 new trials in July, fewer than the 119 that opened in June and the 108 reported for May. The lower monthly count does not eliminate opportunity, but it makes timely screening especially important for people who meet narrow eligibility criteria.

Closing enrollment creates a narrow window

Patients with cancer face the greatest concentration of studies nearing closure. Breast cancer accounts for 12 closing-soon trials, followed by prostate cancer (7) and ovarian cancer (5). Endometrial cancer, lung cancer, and cancer more broadly each appear in 4 studies. Other time-sensitive areas include depression, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, sleep, and body composition, with 3 trials each.

Healthy adults also have a meaningful but limited opportunity. Of the 260 trials projected to close within 90 days, 66 accept healthy volunteers. Statewide, 578 recruiting trials currently accept healthy volunteers, including 17 of the 87 trials that opened in July. Anyone interested should check the current site status immediately; projected closing dates can change, and screening may require multiple visits or records review.

July’s new research emphasizes metabolic disease and treatment studies

New York’s July openings span drug, device, behavioral, biological, and diagnostic research. Metabolic and weight-related conditions feature prominently: metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, commonly called MASH, weight loss, obesity, and overweight each appear in 2 new trials. Acute myeloid leukemia and moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis also each account for 2 openings, as do rTMS and fMRI studies.

Drug trials dominate the month, with 40 new studies. Other intervention types account for 16, followed by devices (14), behavioral studies (8), biological interventions (7), procedures (5), radiation (3), diagnostic tests (2), genetic studies (1), and dietary supplements (1). This gives prospective participants choices beyond experimental medicines, although most people will need to meet condition-specific requirements.

Major-sponsor Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies open in July

Several large studies deserve attention because of their phase, planned enrollment, or sponsor. Amgen’s Phase 3 extension study NCT07684235 plans to enroll 3,200 participants with obesity or overweight. It evaluates the long-term efficacy, safety, and tolerability of maridebart cafraglutide and extends an earlier study. People generally must have completed the parent trial to qualify for an extension study, so interested participants should review the specific eligibility requirements.

Sanofi is sponsoring NCT07734649, a Phase 1/2 randomized study of an RSV and human metapneumovirus vaccine candidate in adults age 60 and older. The study plans to enroll 2,400 participants and will examine immune response and safety. It is one of the new opportunities directly relevant to older adults, a group included in 74 July trials.

Other large July studies include NCT07715877, sponsored by Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which examines social media connectedness in people with fibromyalgia and plans to enroll 1,041 participants. NCT07733999, sponsored by PepsiCo Global R&D, uses surveys to study hydration and nutrition habits among frontline manufacturing workers and plans to enroll 1,000 participants. These studies may be relevant to people seeking research that does not involve a new drug or invasive treatment, although the PepsiCo study is designed for the company’s frontline workers.

New York City leads, but opportunities extend across the state

New York City is the clear center of new trial activity, with 55 of July’s 87 openings. Rochester follows with 10, while The Bronx has 7. Buffalo, Harrison, and Commack each have 5 new trials. Uniondale accounts for 4, Lake Success for 3, Stony Brook for 2, and Orchard Park for 1.

The distribution is heavily concentrated in the New York City metropolitan area and nearby Long Island and Westchester communities, but Rochester and Buffalo provide substantial upstate access. Major academic and cancer centers are prominent sponsors: NYU Langone Health opened 7 trials, while Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Medical College of Cornell University opened 5 each. Roswell Park Cancer Institute opened 4, and the University of Rochester and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai opened 3 each.

Who should search now?

Families may find opportunities among 16 new trials that include children. There are 6 female-only trials and no male-only trials. Older adults appear in 74 new-trial eligibility criteria, including Sanofi’s vaccine study. Healthy adults should search now as well: 17 July openings accept healthy volunteers, and 578 such trials are recruiting statewide.

Industry sponsors account for 39 new trials, while 45 are classified as other sponsors. Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca each opened 2 studies. Overall, academic institutions and medical centers remain especially visible, but major pharmaceutical companies are driving several of the largest Phase 2 and Phase 3 opportunities.

With the six-month monthly trend moving from 112 new trials in February to 87 in July, people who qualify should not wait for a broader selection later in the year. The next phase of New York’s research pipeline is likely to bring additional metabolic, cancer, vaccine, immune, and behavioral studies, but current openings and closing-soon trials deserve attention first.
