For Missourians considering participation in clinical research, June 2026 presents both urgent opportunities and a significant expansion of new studies. Across the state, 103 clinical trials are scheduled to conclude within the next 90 days, creating a critical window for enrollment. This includes 20 studies actively seeking healthy volunteers, offering a chance to contribute to medical advancements without a specific health condition.

Individuals living with certain health conditions should also act quickly to explore trials with impending deadlines. Research focusing on various conditions, including specific cancer types and cardiovascular health, are among those with limited time remaining for enrollment. Conditions with trials closing soon include:

Major Research Initiatives Launch Across Missouri

This month, Missouri welcomes 38 new clinical trials, a notable increase from the 23 trials that opened in May 2026. These new studies include several significant Phase 3 drug trials from major pharmaceutical companies, offering participants access to cutting-edge treatments for widespread health challenges like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and migraine.

Expanding Research Across Diverse Health Conditions

The 38 new trials opening this month in Missouri cover a diverse range of health conditions, with a strong focus on metabolic health. The most common conditions addressed by these new studies include:

Beyond these, new research is also exploring areas such as attention, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction rehabilitation, advanced breast cancer, cervical disease, and the effects of caffeine. In terms of intervention types, drug trials lead the way, accounting for 27 of the new studies. Behavioral interventions contribute 3 new trials, while device and biological studies each add 4 and 2 new opportunities, respectively. Dietary supplement and procedure trials also offer new avenues for participation.

Academic institutions continue to play a vital role in the state's research ecosystem, with Washington University School of Medicine sponsoring 8 of the new trials and the University of Missouri-Columbia sponsoring 2. Industry sponsors are also driving significant research efforts, with 20 new trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly and Company, Gasherbrum Bio, Inc., Novo Nordisk A/S, and Kallyope Inc.

Missouri's Research Footprint: Opportunities Across the State

Missouri's clinical research landscape is robust, with 1,858 clinical trials currently recruiting across 63 cities and 942 research sites statewide. This month, the majority of new research initiatives are concentrated in the state's major metropolitan areas, ensuring broad access for many residents. The cities with the most new trials include:

Additionally, North Kansas City and Jefferson City each welcomed 1 new trial, demonstrating that research opportunities are available beyond the largest urban centers. This distribution ensures that residents in various regions of Missouri have access to cutting-edge research, from major university medical centers to community-based sites.

Healthy Volunteers and Diverse Demographics in Focus

For individuals without a specific medical condition, there are significant opportunities to contribute to medical science. Of the 38 new trials launched this month, 6 are actively seeking healthy volunteers. Statewide, a total of 190 clinical trials are currently recruiting healthy participants, providing numerous avenues for those interested in supporting medical research.

Clinical trials in Missouri are designed to be inclusive, with a broad range of eligibility criteria. Of the new trials, 4 include children as participants, and a substantial 34 include older adults, ensuring that research benefits diverse age groups. While most trials are open to both sexes, 1 new trial is female-only and 2 are male-only, addressing specific health questions relevant to these populations.

As we move through June, the focus will remain on the ongoing enrollment in these significant Phase 3 trials and the exploration of new treatments, diagnostics, and preventive measures for a broad spectrum of health challenges across Missouri. We encourage interested individuals to explore these opportunities promptly, especially those with approaching enrollment deadlines.
