For Pennsylvanians considering participation in clinical research, June 2026 presents both urgent deadlines and exciting new opportunities. A significant number of studies are nearing their enrollment goals, with 226 clinical trials statewide slated to close within the next 90 days. This includes 50 studies actively seeking healthy volunteers, offering a critical window for those without specific health conditions to contribute to medical advancements.

Individuals living with certain health conditions should also act quickly to explore trials with impending deadlines. Research focusing on various cancers, chronic pain, and cardiovascular health are among those with limited time remaining for enrollment. Conditions with trials closing soon include:

Major Research Initiatives Launch Across Pennsylvania

This month, Pennsylvania welcomes 62 new clinical trials, matching the number of studies that opened in May 2026. These new studies include several significant Phase 3 drug trials from major pharmaceutical companies, offering participants access to cutting-edge treatments for widespread health challenges like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and migraine, as well as crucial vaccine development.

New Research Opportunities Across Conditions and Interventions

The 62 new trials opening this month in Pennsylvania cover a diverse range of health conditions, with a strong focus on metabolic health, chronic conditions, and cancer prevention. The most common conditions addressed by these new studies include:

In terms of intervention types, drug trials lead the way, accounting for 29 of the new studies. Behavioral interventions are also well-represented with 13 new trials, alongside device studies (11 trials), biological treatments (3 trials), and diagnostic tests (2 trials).

Academic institutions continue to play a vital role in the state's research ecosystem, with the University of Pennsylvania sponsoring 7 of the new trials. Industry sponsors are also driving significant research efforts, with 26 new trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies such as Novo Nordisk A/S, Eli Lilly and Company, Gasherbrum Bio, Inc., AstraZeneca, and Kallyope Inc.

Pennsylvania's Research Footprint: Geographic Accessibility

Pennsylvania's clinical research landscape is robust, with 3,187 clinical trials currently recruiting across 168 cities and 1,697 research sites statewide. This month, the majority of new research initiatives are concentrated in the state's major metropolitan areas, ensuring broad access for many residents. The cities with the most new trials include:

Beyond these major hubs, new opportunities are also available in Newport and Uniontown, demonstrating a continued effort to spread research access across different regions of the state.

Who Can Participate? Eligibility and Inclusivity

For individuals without a specific medical condition, there are significant opportunities to contribute to medical science. Of the 62 new trials launched this month, 13 are actively seeking healthy volunteers. Statewide, a total of 369 clinical trials are currently recruiting healthy participants, providing numerous avenues for those interested in supporting medical research.

Clinical trials in Pennsylvania are designed to be inclusive, with a broad range of eligibility criteria. Of the new trials, 13 include children as participants, and 51 include older adults, ensuring that research benefits diverse age groups. Additionally, 4 new trials are specifically designed for female-only participants.

As we move through June, the focus will remain on the ongoing enrollment in these significant Phase 3 trials and the exploration of new treatments, diagnostics, and preventive measures for a broad spectrum of health challenges across Pennsylvania.
